Thank goodness the beautiful weather is finally here. We have taken full advantage with lots of outside activities. It has been a busy week in general.
They visited a Grade 1 classroom this week, observed some changes on our bean seed experiments, took a trip to Loutet garden to do some weeding and learn about pollination, went insect hunting in the forest behind the school, and just generally had our schedule tossed about to accommodate for all the madness!
Next week our Butterfly larvae arrive, we have Fun Day, and YAP all on the schedule so it will be another busy week.
I have some pics of the Garden visit below. Hope you enjoy and have a GREAT weekend!
I would normally email this message directly but our system has been down ALL day today so I HOPE that everyone receives this.
Just a reminder that we are meeting at Sutherland again on Monday for our Young Actors Project workshop. I will arrive at the front entrance at 8:35 to keep you all on schedule and we will go inside the school at 8:50. Feel free to pull up and drop off quickly if you are in a rush.
After the workshop, our plan is to walk back to the school, stopping at Loutet for a snack and some playground time before arriving back at school around 11:30. Last time, some of you opted to take your child's backpack to Brooksbank so they wouldn't have to carry it from Sutherland...please DO NOT do that this time so everyone has their snack with them.
We are all looking forward to Fun Day on Wednesday next week!
Some things you might like to know...
Teachers run Fun Day stations outside the school (inside if weather dictates)
Children are free to roam and visit any station as often as they wish
Parents are welcome to attend, but do no HAVE to.
There will be a snack and lunch break as per usual
Water bottle, a hat, and sunscreen is required for a sunny day as they will be outside a lot
Schedule for the day is the same, with dismissal at 2:00.
Children will be organized into colour groups for a whole school group activity. If your child could dress in their colour for the day, it would be most helpful.
For the past couple of weeks we have been exploring the effects of push and pull on movement as part of the Science curriculum. Today, we expanded the concept by experimenting with the effect of friction on the pull of gravity. Some surfaces create less friction and, therefore allow objects to slide more easily down. We discovered that SMOOTH surfaces allowed or faster sliding!
