100s week
All this week, we have been focusing on the number 100 in Kindergarten. We have been counting our way here, one day at a time and the big day is this Thursday. We are not asking for 100s projects from home so not to worry! They are, however, being given time in partnerships and/or groups and/or individually to create a display of 100 in class. This is open-ended and subject to their ideas and creativity! Pictures to follow tomorrow also.
See if your child can explain to you how counting to 10 is all you need to do to reach 100!

Late Arrivals
SAFETY NOTICE
If
this door is closed in the morning, it means I have taken attendance.
Please remember to sign your
child in at the office if you have arrived late.
When a
child is marked absent without a reason given, the office staff have the important responsibility of locating that
student to ensure they are safe.
This involves phoning parents or emergency contacts, and/or speaking
with the classroom teacher, and siblings.
As a school-wide issue, this is an inefficient use of time and resources
for a child who may have simply arrived late without the office staff being
aware.
Please help us
keep our children safe by keeping the office aware.

Valentines Day
We will be celebrating Valentines Day on the 14th. We do make time for children to hand out Valentines Day cards to their friends - the rule is that no one should be excluded so if participating, please ensure that there is one card for each classmate. We have 20 students in total. There is a class list on the blog if your child wants to individualize each card.
Happy Valentines!
Independence Day
Today was Independence Day at Brooksbank! It was great to see the smiling faces of so many children feeling proud to walk into the school on their own. I found that our area had a much more quiet, calm energy this morning with less adult voices chatting and/or directing their children, and children focusing on their responsibilities as students as soon as they walked in the door on their own.
Thank you for giving your child the gift of independence!

Box creations
Here are some pics from our day of exploration with boxes! I haven't vetted them so there may be duplicates.
They were so engaged throughout the process! It was very exciting to see them generate an idea on their own, and then take a risk creating it with such confidence. Some chose to work alone, some together. They had the option of keeping their projects here to work on next week but most chose to take them home, some chose to recycle them.
Please enjoy talking to your child about the process and the final product. I hope that they are inspired to create new things form old, outside of school.
